C&J Capstans is a UK business established in 1988 dedicated to the manufacture of high quality sturdy capstan winches.

Based in Sussex, we specialize in the manufacturer and supply of powerful and dependable electric anchor capstans and deck equipment.

Our products are widely used among charter fishing boats and work boats at home and abroad. They are suitable for use on fishing boats up to forty feet in length.

All capstans in our range are extremely rugged in construction and are built for hard work. They all have large ribs which give outstanding grip on the anchor rope.

Our motorised capstans are easy to install and easy to operate

We now have five capstan models which have internal motors and one model which has an external motor. All are virtually totally weather proof. The capstans are very easy to install, requiring only six small holes for mounting studs and one for the wires. There is no cutting of large vessel-weakening holes through the gunwales. Simply mount the switch somewhere safe and accessible and you are in business!

C&J's founder operated a charter boat from Brighton Marina for 28 years and for 12 years from Shoreham-by-Sea before that. All that experience went into the design of these products. The capstan on the founder's boat, the first he ever built, had been there for 19 years, hauled a good few bits of wreckage to the surface and never let him down!

In 2011, C&J Capstan's manufacturing operation was absorbed into another local long-standing precision engineering business. The capstans have been tweaked and re-engineered using Hawksley's CNC and design experience to improve the resilience and sturdiness even more. Our mission is to continue to supply high quality durable capstans to discerning buyers.
